How much is too much? It's tricky to tell if that pour of wine was way too much (the bottle did feel suspiciously light after)—or if drinking light beer means you can have two cans instead of one. Sunnyside helps you track and measure your alcohol, building a meaningful awareness around how much you drink. Through the app, you'll learn how to measure drink sizes, evaluate your drinking patterns, and commit to a personalized action plan based on your wellness goals.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), one standard drink contains about 14g of undiluted, pure alcohol. To put this into perspective, a standard drink is equal to a standard 12 oz can of regular beer or a 5 oz serving of 12% ABV wine. Meanwhile, 1.5 oz of 40% distilled spirit is also considered a standard drink. These measurements are helpful but do not always portray the serving sizes you'll get in restaurants, bars, or at home. Plus, the alcohol content of different drinks varies wildly. So it can be challenging to gauge the actual alcohol content of your drinks.
The recommended limit per day is really not as much as it's commonly perceived to be! According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, men should limit their alcohol intake to just two or fewer standard drinks per day. Meanwhile, women should consume one or fewer standard drinks per day. These limits are based on 'standard drinks'—in other words, a 5 oz serving of 12% ABV white wine is not equivalent to a 5 oz serving of 18% ABV sherry. Hence, keeping an eye on the ABV of your favorite tipples may be worthwhile. Overpouring is also common, even more so that some wine glasses are large enough to hold an entire bottle of wine (we kid you not)!
The best way to track your drinking is by using a mindful drinking app like Sunnyside. Of course, manually logging your intake in a diary could also be very useful. But that isn't as quick and convenient as having an app that does most of the heavy lifting for you. Through the app, you'll learn how to estimate and measure drink sizes. Sunnyside will also send daily prompts and reminders to log your drinking and keep you accountable along your journey—while supporting you in a judgment-free space.
Measuring and tracking your alcohol informs you if you're drinking too much. Though this sounds very simple, many people aren't aware that their alcohol consumption patterns are harming their physical and mental wellness. Because the short-term effects of alcohol can make you feel good, it's natural for us to give leeway to certain things—like a bigger pour of wine or "just one more drink." Tracking your intake allows you to reflect on, reform, and redirect your habits to foster healthier and sustainable ones. This may look like stopping alcohol entirely or simply cutting back.
Sunnyside is your personal alcohol tracking diary that helps you monitor how much and how frequently you drink. Say you're looking to develop healthier drinking habits. But you don't know where to start—and understandably so. In just three minutes, you can kickstart your mindful drinking journey with Sunnyside. Through the app, you'll monitor and evaluate your drinking patterns, receive accountability messages, and talk to real-life coaches for advice (only if you want to).
